About Me

My name is Jessica (Jessie) Wrubel. I’m a 3D Camera and Layout Artist from the United States.

I graduated with my BFA from the University of Central Florida. There, I contributed to the award winning student film “Dreamweaver” along with nine other talented artists.

I spent four years as a 3D Camera and Layout Artist at Rooster Teeth Animation in Austin, Texas. There, I worked on the webseries “RWBY” as well as “Red vs Blue” and the DC Comics crossover: “Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes & Huntsmen Parts 1 and 2.”

In 2022, worked on several feature films as a Previz and Layout Artist in Montréal, Quebec. I worked as a Layout Artist at Reel FX Montréal, and a Previz Layout Artist at Mikros Animation Montréal.

Mikros Animation – Montreal (Oct. 2022 – Dec. 2022)

Previs Layout Artist

  • Create Previs sequences by positioning and animating characters, environments, props and cameras. Reference the storyboard animatic for rough blocking and timing, and as an overall reference for the tone of the sequence. Propose alternative camera angles/ movements in line with the director’s intentions.
  • Create rough lighting and rough FX reference for shots and sequences. Create rough blockout models/rigs as reference for downstream departments.
  • Guarantee continuity for the sequences. Clean sequences for handoff to downstream departments, and match final shot timing to that of the latest editorial export.

Reel FX – Montreal (Mar. 2022 – Oct. 2022)

Rooster Teeth Animation (Jul. 2018 – Feb. 2022)

3D Camera and Layout Artist

  • Assist in pre-production planning by scouting out animation sequences in order to preemptively track any inconsistencies between assets, storyboards and script.
  • Use the script, storyboard animatic and staging maps to lay out assets for animation sequences. Use the principles of cinematography, composition, and perspective to place and move cameras, characters and other assets throughout the sequence. Complete camera passes, and work closely with animators during production of complex camera sequences.
  • Ensure that characters, props, sets, motion capture data and rough cameras are set up properly for downstream departments. Perform quality control and continuity passes, as well as problem solve issues that arise when passing shots from production to post production.
  • Training new Layout hires in rough layout, scene scouting, creating shot templates, final layout, and cleanup/quality control tasks.

Whoosh Animation (Nov. 2017 – Jul. 2018)

Layout Artist

  • Designed visuals for video based on provided scripts and audio in order to match performance and style of the video topic.
  • Layout 2D image assets in sequence using Adobe After Effects and Premiere. Provide production notes to the Animation department detailing the concept idea and expectation for the final product.
  • Promoted to a Lead position after 5 months. My responsibilities included reviewing other Layout Artists’ work and providing feedback for revisions.
